Proverbs 4:7
Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
Education is expensive. Many parents begin planning for their children's education before they are born. College students take out loans to acquire an education they believe will give them the necessary tools earn a good living. But many do not calculate the real cost of education, time.
True learning is the result of the investment of time into worthwhile endeavors. We will have to prioritize the pursuit of wisdom over watching sports, playing video games, and watching of favorite television show or movie. It might even mean limiting our time on facebook!
According to A.C. Nielson Co., the average American watches 4 hours of TV a day or 28 hours a week. How much more time is invested in social networking sites, video games, and a hobbies on a daily basis? What would happen if we invested some of that time in pursuing God's wisdom for living? What would happen if we just split the difference and gave 1 to 2 hours a day mediating on God's wisdom? Are we willing to pay the price for that kind of education?
I agree with your definition of "true learning" and want to add that we must also consider the time we spend face-to-face or on the phone with loved ones and friends for "advice". While we may be given opportunities for godly counsel, God wants us to seek HIS WISDOM and direction FIRST. Time with Him in His Word and in prayer must be our priority. . . not out of obligation, but out of love!

I think that is why I am returning to speaking to God first before I speak to others. I need to hear from God which in turn makes my interaction with others more fruitful.
